NHS and Keyworkers - Kirkby Lonsdale tribute

NHS and Keyworkers – Kirkby Lonsdale tribute

During the Covid-19 lockdown of 2020, we projected on to one of the town’s most iconic buildings, St Mary’s Church. We felt this building over any other in the town of Kirkby Lonsdale seemed most appropriate, due to it being one of the most resilient and time-honoured landmarks in the local area. Built in the early 12th century, the church has endured some of the most testing moments in history, including two world wars, and horrifying plague outbreaks. We hope that this building will always be remembered for what it is, a beautiful pillar of continuity and community in this place that we all call home. During the lock down many people made tributes to keyworkers and the NHS in lots of ways to show their appreciation. The UK events lighting and sound industry made their own tribute with an evening across the country called “Our Shining Light ” our part in this was lighting St Mary’s for the NHS and Keyworkers – Kirkby Lonsdale tribute. We had to do this in virtual secrecy and with only one person on the setup due to doing things safely and adhering to the social distancing in place.  Around 8:30 pm on Sunday 26th April the church started to take on its new blue colour scheme and message. We received a lot of positive feedback from the town’s residents, social media and the local press. Thank you everyone who got in touch and to St Mary’s Church and the Rev Richard Snow for his help and assistance with this activity.
